Waterski Has a Promising First Tournament in Chico
Saturday, September 19, 2009 The Waterski team traveled to Chico to compete in a Sky Lake on September 19th and 20th. The team placed 7th out of the 14 teams in attendance.In the Men's Slalom event they placed 5th with new freshman Troy Crivello taking 9th. Wesley Swords took 19th and JB Mitchell took 20th, and Ben Halpern running his first pass in a tournament placing him at 30th. The men took 3rd place in Trick: Troy placed 3rd, Ben took 11th, and JB placed 13th. Wesley tried trick skiing for the first time at this tournament and was able to do two tricks. Women took 5th in Slalom. Kelsie Brooks placed 8th, and Rachel Smallwood and Austyn Lorenz both scored for the first time in slalom. In Trick Women took 3rd: Kelsie Brooks placed 7th, Rachel took 12th and Brittany Lyng placed 18th. Captain Kelsie Brooks placed 10th in women overall The team is excited with new members: Transfer student Troy Crivello has brought a lot to the team having grown up in the competitive waterski environment, Wesley Swords is a new freshman who is very excited about skiing, and he already knows how to slalom and is picking up trick and jump very quickly. The team also has a new skier KJ Jensen who is joining the team never had skied before but is willing to work hard and put in the time to get better. Overall it was a good tournament and the team is very excited about the upcoming season. Back to News & Results
