Men's Waterpolo Competes in SoCal Championship
Sunday, October 25, 2009 UCSD came into the SoCal Championship tournament weekend ranked an impressive 3rd in one of the top conferences in the nation. The opening round game against a UC Santa Barbara squad that was geared up to take on the Tritons, however, quickly ended any hopes of postseason advancement. UCSD was up 5-4 at halftime, but was halted by an offensive drought in the second half of the game to let UCSB run away with the game 9-5. This loss dropped the Tritons out of any advancement hopes, but the squad still pulled out a gritty 7-5 win over host San Diego State. On the second day of the tournament, already knowing they would not advance, both the University of San Diego and UCSD squared off for the third time this season. The Tritons were not able to pull through for a third win and ended up losing to the Toreros by a score of 9-8 in overtime. Back to News & Results
