Triton Men’s Volleyball Competes in National Championships in Dallas, Texas
Wednesday, April 16, 2008 The UCSD Men’s club volleyball team headed to Dallas last week to compete in their final competition, the National Championships. The event lasted from Thursday, April 10th through Saturday, April 12th.Competing at the highest level, Division 1, the team was ranked 30th out of 140 teams from all over the nation. The first day of competition consisted of a 4 team pool for UCSD. The team went 2-1, losing a close match to 9th ranked UC Davis in 3 games, 25-22, 23-25, 14-16. The loss resulted in UCSD taking 2nd place in the pool and was forced to play a challenge match against Utah to stay in the gold bracket. UCSD pulled together and won an intense match against Utah in a decisive 3rd game to stay in the gold bracket. The team was led by kill-leader Chris Sayers and setter Nick Adams. Day 2 of the tournament did not go as well for UCSD, losing 2 close matches to 12th ranked Ohio State, 21-25, 25-23, 15-17, and San Diego State. The disappointing losses sent UCSD into the silver bracket, where a loss to Minnesota sent them home a disappointing 32nd place.
