Women's Ultimate Places 7th at Sean Ryan Memorial Tournament
Sunday, November 15, 2009 Women’s Ultimate made the long drive up to Santa Cruz to play in their second tournament of the season, the Sean Ryan Memorial. They began the tournament by upsetting UCLA, a team they will face over and over again this season. Cal brought a fired up squad and outplayed UCSD in the second game of the day. In the third and final game, UCSD went down several points to Chico, but Loryn Kanemaru led a comeback charge and played a huge part in a two-point win which placed them second in their pool of four and into the championship bracket on Sunday. UCSD’s quarterfinal game was against last year’s National Champions, UCSB. UCSD put up a strong fight, but eventually lost. They moved out of the championship bracket and lost to Humboldt and then beat sectional rival Claremont, placing 7th overall.
