Surfing Competes in Western Championships
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 Missing a day of class to go surf in sunny Church’s beach, the Triton surf team competed in the NSSA Western Regional Championships. It was difficult conditions with 2-3 foot surf and large tide swings, but everyone surfed as hard as they could.Marc Everds and Marty Wienstein managed to stand out in the difficult conditions. Marc surfed hard, but got stuck in the third round and Marty Weinstein went on to surf through the quarter finals. Girl standout Lauren Sweeney dominated the contest winning the final and Mary Mccormick surfed well by making the semis. The UCSD surf team placed 6th in the contest and will qualify for the National Championships in June. Until then, the team will practice hard in all conditions so that everyone can be prepared for any type of surf. UCSD has a great line up of surfers and plans to better the Westerns results at Nationals.
