Triton Sailing Competes in Women’s Championships in Hawaii
Wednesday, April 23, 2008 The UC San Diego Women’s sailing team traveled out to Hawaii this last weekend to sail in the Women’s PCC’s! In order to take advantage of the tropic weather, the team flew out a bit early, and was able to practice with the University of Hawaii that Thursday. The Championships were held in one day, Saturday, because the University of Hawaii recognized that their visitors might want to check out the beautiful scenery on Sunday. Both A and B fleets sailed consistently through the day, ending at five in the evening. Each fleet sailed a full round. The weather was unlike anything the UCSD team had ever experienced. The tropic weather was hot and clear one minute, then raining with 20 knots gusts the next. The UCSD team performed as best they could. In the end, Stanford won the overall regatta, and UCSD finished in sixth place. Ashley Rose, a senior, and her crew Marie McClellan-Heck sailed Varsity A. Kathryn Shultz and Lauren Miller sailed Varsity B. Next weekend, Ashley Rose and Kathryn Shultz will be traveling to Hobart, New York to crew for their skippers, Nick Ward and Andy Dippel in the Championships! Good Luck!
