Friday, October 9, 2009 The Tritons (DIII) took on the San Diego State Aztecs (DII) last Friday to open their 2009-2010 hockey season. The game started off tough as each team finished their checks, which sent the Aztec home crowd into an uproar. After finishing both the first and second periods with a close game, the Aztecs proved why they were the superior team finishing off the Tritons by a overwhelming score of 15-2. Rookies Gerrit Davis and Zoli Berecz scored their first goals for the Tritons in the game. Saturday night’s game against CSU Fullerton (DII) was the Tritons home opener for the season. The Tritons took an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Senior Mike Frederick. Frederick, the newly named assistant captain is expected to help lead the Tritons this season with this physical play and veteran scoring ability. Opening the 3rd period with a power play the Tritons trailed 5-3. However, the Tritons were unable to stay out of the penalty box and allowed the Titans to score a total of 7 power play goals by the end of the night.
