Equestrian Excels in Western Show
Sunday, November 15, 2009 This past Saturday on November 14th, the UCSD western team continued their great year with an ok morning show and a fantastic afternoon show. Starting with the Open Reining, Amanda Brightwell earned second place. Then, in the Open Horsemanship, she had a tough draw and earned fourth place. In the Novice, Jessica Morrison had some equipment failure when her spurs fell off in the class. Even with that, Jessica placed fifth in her class. With a slow start, the team was in need of a win, and the captain, Jaclyn Erwin, did just that. Jaclyn won her large Intermediate class closely followed by Katie Kwong in second and Leah Keegan in sixth. To end the morning, Tobi Havlik placed third in the Beginner class, and Cory Davis placed fifth in the same class. The team had some obstacles to overcome, but in the end, the western team received second overall for the morning. The morning show was good, but it was the afternoon show where the UCSD western team really shined. To kick it off, Amanda Brightwell placed first in the Open Reining and the Open Horsemanship. Following these two wins, Jessica Morrison’s spurs stayed on, and she also received first place in her Novice class. From there, the firsts kept on pouring in! Jaclyn Erwin won her class again in the Intermediate, and Leah Keegan and Katie Kwong earned fifth and sixth, respectively. To complete the outstanding afternoon show, Tobi Havlik brought it home and won the Beginner class, followed by Cory Davis in second and Stephanie Lofton in fifth. With all of these wins, the western team won the afternoon show overall. It was a great way to end the day, and we can’t wait to do it again!
