Team Overview
The UC San Diego Dancesport Team is a Competitive Ballroom Dance Team. We compete against teams from all over the nation including Claremont College, Arizona State University, Stanford, University of Massachusetts, and many more. We travel all over the state of California for collegiate and amateur competitions during the spring quarter and during fall quarter a select sixteen members are chosen to represent UCSD at the national competition in Columbus, Ohio. Collegiate Ballroom dancing integrates team spirit with personal growth. We focus mainly in Latin dance: Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive. No experience is necessary to join and there are teams for all levels of dancers. The UC San Diego Dancesport Team places most of its focus onto formation team dancing, which is eight couples on the floor performing the same six minute themed routine. The past year’s themes of the routines have been: No Doubt, School’s Out, Aerosmith, Zoolander, Indiana Jones, and many more. Some of these routines may be view via Youtube (type in UCSD Dancesport). Our Dancesport team in one of the top teams in the Nation. Four time Intercollegiate National Champions and USA Dance Collegiate National Dancesport Formation Team Champions 2008, the Dancesport continually pushes the limit and brings pride to UC San Diego campus. Our team does also pushes each person to dance “couples.” Couples Dancing is where a lead and a follow compete against other couples in all kinds of styles: Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, and Swing.
